Issues Being Addressed

  • LEADERSHIP

Our community needs a leader who has a strategic vision and recognizes that desired results can be achieved through a delicate balance of engaged residents, public policy, public safety, and city finances working together. I believe a Mayor needs to be a servant leader - that’s a leader that recognizes leadership is just an opportunity to serve others. Servant leaders are excellent listeners and, most importantly, understand that it’s not about them.

  • SEWER SYSTEM EXPANSION

In collaboration with the IOP Water and Sewer Commission, we need to implement sewer service to more of the island. The Water and Sewer Commission has completed an island-wide plan that outlines the next steps required for implementation. This project, while large and multi year, needs to be thoughtfully discussed, executed and all funding options available need to be researched.

  • DRAINAGE

While significant progress has been made in recent years, we need to continue to allocate funds toward the ongoing needs around our island. We have a drainage master plan for the entire island which we will need to continue to prioritize. We also must be aggressive in finding alternative funding sources via grants and other funds that may be available.

  • LONG-TERM STRATEGY

We have recently completed many strategic initiatives that are complex and contain many recommendations. We must create a strategy for implementing the results from the Comprehensive Plan, Community Enrichment Plan, Beach Preservation Committee and the Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan.

  • FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

While good progress has been made the past few years, this remains job priority number one! We must continue to balance our short and long term operational needs with our need to maintain adequate cash reserves.

  • WATERWAY BLVD MULTI-USE PATH ELEVATION PROJECT

This project has been a long time coming.  While not only providing an improved multi-use path, we will be improving drainage and stormwater runoff for a large portion of our community.

  • BEACH NOURISHMENT

We need to plan and explore all available resources to ensure our short and long term needs are met to maintain a healthy beach profile.
